Press
“His music should be heard and valued as it deserves. An interesting album that you'll want to listen to more than once.”
“Rein constructs a language that reveals itself progressively, allowing details, connections and changes of perspective to emerge with each listen.”
“There are so many colors here that it's easy to be captivated.”
“A thoughtful and melodic jazz album, Variants finds Austrian bassist Vincent Rein balancing folk influences, lyrical composition and collective improvisation in a work that feels both reflective and forward-looking.”
"The new album Variants by the Vincent Rein Quintet, released on June 26 via Radau Records, stands out with Vincent Rein’s driving bass sound. The music combines the energy and momentum of Art Blakey-inspired hard bop with the personal experiences and individual musical voices of each band member. The result is a quintet that is perfectly attuned to one another, creating a cohesive and compelling musical experience."
"The chemistry of the ensemble plays the decisive role and creates a sound reality that feels equally intimate, concise and completely unforced.”
“these seven songs exude a great deal of harmony and infectious joy, which, together with the high-quality craftsmanship, makes for an important production.”
